I went bankrupt in August this year and as I was self employed, the official receiver told me to stop trading under my old UTR number and that I could request a new one that I could continue my self employment with. Please could you advise how I can get a new UTR number? I have tried opening a new gateway account but my name is still tied to my old account and UTR so it wont let me apply for a new UTR. Thanks in advance

Hi,
You will need to contact our Self Assessment team, to report your bankruptcy, in Scotland, bankruptcy is called sequestration. We will pass your details to our bankruptcy team, who will write to you. They can provide you with a new UTR number, to allow you to continue to be self employed during the period of bankruptcy and submit tax returns each year. You can see guidance here:
