I am writing to seek clarification regarding my tax obligations for the tax year 2023-2024, specifically in relation to the requirement for filing a self-assessment tax return. To provide context, I ceased receiving overseas service income in last year March 2023, and I promptly informed the HMRC of this change through the online platform in June 2023. Since then, my only overseas income has been from bank interest, which amounts to a very minimal sum of £60 for the entire year (which I believe it is well covered within the interest income allowance). Given these circumstances, I would appreciate your guidance on whether I am still required to file a self-assessment tax return for the tax year 2023-2024. I want to ensure that I fulfill all my obligations correctly and promptly.
