Hi, I hope you can help me with a query regarding my tax residency status and potential Split Year Treatment for the 2023/24 tax year. - I purchased a home in the UK on 27 January 2023. - I was present in the UK from 10 April to 25 April 2023. - I returned with my family and have been living in the UK from 1 August 2023 onwards for the rest of the tax year. Please can you clarify: 1. Is 1 August 2023 considered the start of the UK resident part of my split year? 2. How should I handle reporting income for the periods before and after becoming a UK resident? Thank you for your assistance.

Hi
HMRC cannot advise you on your residence as this if for you to determine. If you qualify for split year then you only report any foreign income for the UK part of the year
RDRM12000 - Residence: The SRT: Split year treatment. If you do not qualify then you will need to report all your foreign income to the UK Tax on foreign income.  The guidance at RDRM12150 at www.gov.uk will help you work out if split year treatment applies.
