My Payments On Account for the tax year 2022/23 are way too high. I made the first payment on account on the 31 Jan 2023 and are due to make the second on the 31 Jul 2023. If instead I submit my Return on line now (before 31 Jul 2023) and pay the balance of tax due (tax due for 2023 less 1st payment on account) can I simply ignore the second payment on account? Or do I have to notify HMRC that I am not making the second payment on accident?

Hi wilsonmj,
If you file the tax return the Payments on Account are adjusted accordingly, if you then pay the total amount due you won't need to make any further payment for the year.
Thnak you.

Hi, For the tax year 2021 - 2022, I paid 'payment on account' in Jan 2023 and July 2023. Now for the tax year 2022 - 2023, the tax calculation sheet that appears AFTER I fill in the details doesn't seem to consider the payments I made last year. So, will the numbers get adjusted AFTER i submit the return.. If not, what do we do? Thanks

Hi Sac Cloud
The payments on account are not shown on the calculation. You will be credited with the payments on account on your statement of account which will update the balance due for 31 January.
Thank you.
