Hi there, I set up a direct debit about 10 days ago for the tax from my self assessment return to be paid in one-go. I can see through my bank account a direct debit for HMRC has been set up. However the payment has not been taken yet and I'm concerned about incurring a late payment charge after the 31st January. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm also experiencing an issue with my direct debit. I set it up in June 2023. Last payment was due to be taken on 29th Jan but it's not been taken and now my account is showing as overdue.

I have arranged husband's income tax payment via HMRC payment site. I had a message on my bank site to say the payment was approved but after several days still not taken from our joint account. The bank says as the payment was arranged via HMRC site they have no record of the approval. We don't want to end up paying twice. What should we do? Thank goodness we are not near the January deadline.
