Hi, I have registered for a new child benefit claim on may 2024 and the claim was approved in August and the first payment was made on August 2024 for £604... The letter mentions that I am entitled for child benefit from Feb 26, 2024 which I have confirmed from benefits team that out of £604, £144 was for period Feb2023 to April 7 2024... Considering this, I wanted to show this in the self assessment. which of the below applies. 1. Since the money was only paid in 2024, this needs to be shown in the next year's self assessment (financial year 2024-2025) due to be filed before January 2026 2. Since part of money belonged to financial year 2023-2024 (£144) in spite of it being payed in 2024 August, £144 should be shown in the financial year 2023-2024 self assessment due to be filed before Jan , 2025 ?

Hi developerpub,
Provided the claim was made after the 6th April 2024, you will only receive the charge for 24/25, and you will only be be required to file a return for the 24/25 tax year.
