Hi there, I'm quite confused. So I was using an online tax agent for last year's (2023 - 2024) self assessment, they handled everything. December of this year, I decided to switch to a physical accounting firm. They have given me a link to authorise them for handling my affairs. It says I need to sign up for a government gateway account to do this. I have created an account, but when I try to sign in, it asks for verification and says that my details do not match HMRC's records. I've called up, been on various lines for like 3 hours to no avail. Do I need to re-register for self assessment under a gateway account? Because I'm wondering how me creating an online gateway account simply with my email address (with no physical link to my personal details) is enough for me to give authorisation to my new accountant. Any help would be appreciated, I'm at my wit's end!
