I am the sole company director of a Ltd Company. The company paid into my pension directly (£4000). Can I put that on my self assessment form as ‘Payments to your employer’s scheme which were not deducted from your pay before tax’ I also paid in personally (£5000) and received the tax relief of £1250. I have declared this separately.

Hi,

You cannot claim tax relief on payments into your pension scheme, that your employer makes. You can only claim tax relief on those payments that you make. Your employer should be able to claim tax relief on payments they make.

Thank you.
