My question is whether there is any problem paying a large amount (over 10 thousand pounds) on the self-assessment website when no tax bill is due? Will it be appropriately credited? The need to pay a large amount in advance is because my partner inherited a tax-deferred annuity in the US in 2023. Our tax home is the UK and therefore he will owe the tax to the HRMC in 2024. Our tax advisor says that we need to pay before 31 December so that it can be credited to our US taxes. However, we will not be reporting the income until self-assessment after April 5th 2024.

You can make a payment of self assessment tax in advance.
