Hi, My wife and I are both UK tax residents. In this tax year, my wife sold a property in a foreign country solely owned by her. She does not gain but loss so she will report a loss in her self assessment. The property is not owned by me, do I need to declare the sale of this property in my self assessment? Please advise. Many thanks!

Hi,

Although not a legal owner of the property, if an alternative beneficial ownership of income had been submitted to show that you were entitled to receive any income from the property by way of rental or sale, then yes, you will need to report your share of the loss.

Thank you.
