Does anyone know why the calculations on the self-assessment tax return would be very different to the Child Benefit Tax Calculator? The exact same info has been input but calculator is saying the estimated tax charge to pay is £714 (this seems right - husbands salary is £6,300 over £50,000 - 63% of the child benefit we’ve received is £714), self-assessment has calculated we owe over £1,300 which is more than the child benefit we received for 2022/23… makes no sense! Any insight appreciated, thanks.

Based on the figures the balance is higher than just the higher income child benefit charge. We would need to review the calculation to check the figures. If you submit the tax return and allow 3 working days to process to HMRC systems we can then check this for.
