Hi, I have two questions, (1), in the tax return form, the question is asked: "Were you an employee?" (no). "Were you in a partnership?" (no). At the end, when checking my progress, it states: "Were not self-employed". I cannot see anywhere to change this fact although the form is for the "self-employed". (2). The Find Help section states you "must register to pay Class 2 NIC's if registered as self-employed". I was under the impression that if you earned under £6725 (as I have), it was not compulsory as could be voluntary. I would appreciate your guidance on this.

Hi,

Although you are set up in Self Assessment, you may not have fully registered as self employed. To allow us to check this for you and advise you further, you will need to contact our Self Assessment team.

Self Assessment: general enquiries

Even after you register for self employment, if your profit is less than £6725, Class 2 NIC will not be added to your calculation.

Thank you.
