I have to submit an amended self assessment tax return for 2023/2024 as i had omitted some income. My recent tax calculation showed an overpayment of tax but the amendment will show that i actually owe tax. My amendment won't be processed until April 2025 according to the HMRC website but the payment will be due by 31st January 2025. I don't want to be hit by late payment penalties, so will i be able to pay an amount estimated by me in January? Even though my account shows that i am due a refund as i have already had tax deducted at source from an annuity? Thanks

Hi,
If your amendment is not processed by the end of January and late payment fines are applied when the update is complete, you can appeal these penalties. You can see more information here: Appeal a Self Assessment penalty for late filing or late payment
Thank you.
