Hi, I have registered for self-assessment on 19th September 2024 but I haven't received any response up to now. Would like to ask how it would be handled in case of late filing of tax return by 31 Oct due to absence of UTR number for submission? Is there any grace period for submission after I got my UTR number from HMRC? Thanks.

Hi,

It usually takes 4 weeks from registration to receive your UTR. After 4 weeks have elapsed, contact us by webchat or phone via:

Self Assessment: general enquiries

and we can confirm your UTR, or register you if nicessary. You can appeal against any late penalties calculated as a result of the late receipt of your UTR.

Thank you.
