I submitted a CGT on a property form and paid monies due [payment cleared 03/05/24]. Completed self-assessment return for 2023/2024 and included section on CGT. Total monies owed included amount owing for CGT. How does the CGT payment become off-set against monies due for self assessment which currently includes amount due for CGT [already paid], or do I amend the self-assessment form to exclude the CGT section?

Hi edward Verrall,
You also need to show that the gain has already been reported and paid. this will then determine if you have overpaid the CGT or not. if you have, you can telephone 0300 200 3310 to arrange for a refund as it is not issued from the tax return.
Thank you.

Hi edward Verrall,
You can download and print a copy of SA108 at Self Assessment tax return forms.  If you are using the online tax return, when tailoring your tax return, tick yes to the capital gains question at the bottom of page 1 of 3.  When you move to the section to complete your return, there will be an option for capital gains.
Thank you.

Hello I have the same question and your earlier reply above does not seem to answer it. I already reported and paid in full the Capital Gains Tax that was due in February 2024. I am now doing my self assessment return but : 1. the CGT payment I made in February 24 is not showing in my record of self assessment payments. Why? 2. Also the online self-assessment form does not seem to have an option to show that CGT has already been reported and paid. Why does it have to be reported a second time via self assessment if it has already been reported/paid via the separate CGT online reporting return? Where in the self assessment online return form can I state that CGT has already been reported and paid?

Hi,
The capital gains is on a separate system so wont show on your self assessment. you are reporting it again in the tax return as the original report would have been based on estimated income whereas you now have the actual and this could change the tax rates as to what has been charged. on the return, the section is immediately after detailing the disposal to show that you have already declared it under the property disposal return  and also to show the tax already paid.
Thank you.
