I was employed for 3 month overseas and earned income. But I haven’t paid foreign tax yet. Should I fill in my foreign income under ‘Foreign tax paid on employment, self-employment and partnership’. Or should I enter the record somewhere else? I tried to enter the record but after calculation of tax, I found the amount of income was not included.

Hi,

If this is employment income, you would declare it in the employment section of the tax return, in pounds sterling, so that it is included in the tax calculation. Enter "N/A" for the employer reference.

Only if you paid overseas tax, do you need to declare the employment income on the foreign section, so that you can claim a foreign tax relief. You cannot claim foreign tax credit, if no foreign tax was paid.

Thank you.

On the SA form this is confused by then having to "confirm that you did not receive income from foreign earnings" when checking the return
