My friend recently immigrated to the UK with her 6-year-old daughter. As a single mother, she plans to buy a house and dedicate her first year, from August 2024 to mid-2025 or the end of 2025, to being a full-time caregiver for her child. During this period, she will rely on her savings. Does she need to pay any taxes under these circumstances? If so, which form does she need to complete? Thanks

Dear HMRC, Hi, I recently move to UK from Switzerland, I would like to transfer my savings from Switzerland to my UK bank account. The savings are my income when I worked in Switzerland and are taxed in Switzerland. Do I need to report it to HMRC and Do I need to pay tax for the bank transfer? Thank you!

Hi,
In most cases, this transfer would not incur any tax. To confirm this for your individual circumstances you would need to contact our Self Assessment team.
