Hello! I received my visa on 18th January 2023 and continued working for my last job in Hong Kong until 15th April 2023. I entered the UK on 4th July 2023 and received my NI number on 26th July 2023. May I ask if I need to apply for self assessment to declare overseas income before entering the UK? I also have interest from a bank account in Hong Kong which totaling no more than £150 during the 2023-2024 tax year. May I know if I need to declare this to HMRC? Thank you.

Hi,

You do not need to declare the employment income from Hong Kong, as this arose while you were not resident in the UK.
Your bank interest, is however, taxable in the UK and should be declared in a Self Assessment tax return, even if no tax is payable.
Thank you.
