Hi ya, please could you help me out on this. I have paid higher rate tax in the last financial year as my total income crossed 50k. If I make private pension contribution this year, can I be able to claim higher rate tax relief when I submit the returns for this year? Please advise. Thanks a lot.

Hi clarify123,
The pension contribution would only give relief in the tax year it was paid and cannot be set against a previous year. for your details the payment is being made in 24/25 and therefore should not be claimed on the 23/24 tax return.
Thank you.
