Hi, I forgot to claim some business related expenses (specifically travel expenses) for the previous tax years (2021-22 and 2022-23). I have all the receipts and the total claim is about 2.500 pounds for each year. Is it possible to claim them this year (2024-25), when I fill in my self Assessment tax form?

Thanks for your reply. If I got it right, there is no chance of claiming business related expenses for the tax years 2021-22 and 2022-23 (I am not referring to tax year 2023-24). Or is it possible to amend my self assessment form for 2023-24 (deadline up to January 2026) to include these expenses from previous years? Thank you in advance, DocGk

Hi ,

If you need to amend a tax return in order to claim additional tax relief, you can do so for up to 4 years previously (so, as far back as 21/22).

To do so, write to us detailing the additional reliefs and/or expenses you wish to claim, and state that you wish to claim these under
'Overpayment Relief' - this allows us to amend your returns.

Send your letter to Self Assessment,
                               HM Revenue and Customs,
                               United Kingdom  BX9 1AS  .

Thank you .
