Good evening, I was doing my self assessment for 23-24 and I came across this question in the high income child benefit charge section: Enter the date that you and your partner stopped getting all Child Benefit payments if this was before 6 April 2024. I got a letter from Child benefit office saying that my child benefit entitlement will stop from 4 September 2023, but the last payment I received was on 29/08/23(Tuesday) and that payment was probably for the week starting 28/08/23 (Monday). So do I put 04/09/23 or 29/08/23 or maybe even 28/08/23 for that question? Thanks!

Hi Susannesi,
If the entitlement stopped 4 September 2023 then this will be the date you will enter.
Thank you.

Hello! I have the same situation where my child stopped education and I got a letter that child benefit entitlement will stop from 4 September 2023. When I use the child benefit tax calculator online and I put 4 September 2023. It says the charge I have to pay is 1 week more than I actually got . So could it be that I need to put an earlier date than 04/09/23 on my returns for when i stopped getting child benefit payments

Hi,

You would enter the actual date the child benefit ceased. If once your tax return is submitted you think the charge is incorrect then please contact HMRC to review:
