If I have already applied online for Self Assessment, and later requested an SA100 paper form by phone and received it by post, but now I want to go back to filing online, is that okay? Does that mean I can just ignore the SA100 paper form and file online before the 31st of January

Hi,

If you now wish to file online, you can -  you need to enrol for SA online services and get an activation code. First, go to:

HMRC online services: sign in or set up an account

and sign in with your PTA user ID and password.

Then, click 'add SA' and use your UTR number with your NINO or post code to enrol - this will trigger the issue of an activation code

You will receive the activation code within 10 days (21 days if abroad)

Use your activation code at:

HMRC online services: sign in or set up an account

you can then access SA via your PTA landing page, and file an online return from there.

Thank you.
