If I'm a basic rate tax payer and have a savings interest annual income of less than £1000 per annum, why do I have to declare that interest in my self employed self assessment? Waste of effort?

Hi
You are required to declare all your taxable income in your tax return even if some of this is covered by allowances.

Thanks for your short reply but I'm sure it's not only me who thinks this is pointless. If I was still working for my ex employer I wouldn't have to declare anything.
