How to Open Online Account

I'm an nhs worker (paye) and do a self assessment paper tax return for rental income. Is it correct that I require to open an individual account and then add on a self assessment account? If I open just an individual tax account, can I continue to do paper tax returns? If I can, would my tax calculation be posted or be online within my individual tax online account? Is it easy to submit an online tax return? I'd heard that the online tax return layout was confusing and not the same as on the paper return.
