Property Rental 50/50 Split.

My wife and i jointly own a rental property. We are both employed and are lower rate taxpayers. When we did our self assessments I assumed that we would both pay the same amount, but that's not the case, after all both self assessments are exactly the same. The rental income does not push either of us into a higher bracket. Could someone please explain this to first timer
