I need to fill out a self-assessment tax return form for tax year 2022/23 during this period I was in receipt of a Stipend from the RAF for a PhD research program used to cover tuition fees and living maintenance. It totaled 3 x 1472.33 GBP payments directly into my bank account. The stipend was not subject to income tax or national insurance payments. Do I need to declare this in my self-assesment tax return, if so where? Thank you

Hi,

No, PHD stipends are not taxable and you do not need to include it in your return.

Thank you.
