Hi i registered for self assessment as a sole trader yesterday but i realised that i didn't need to do it until next year since i only earned about £700 in tax year 2023/24, ( i started my small business his Jan, i’ve earned £700 by this April) in this case, can i just simply remove for self assessment for specific year (2023/24) after i got UTR number? are there any issue to do so even tho i just registered? i will need to file tax return anyway because i already earned more than £2000 since April. thanks

Hi,
If you do not meet the criteria for 2023/24 then this tax year can be cancelled and the Self Assessment left open for the 2024/25 tax year.
To review and update this you can contact HMRC at:
Self Assessment: general enquiries
Thank you
