Hi, grateful if you could please address my question below: If someone is a UK resident for a few years and leaving UK for another 4 years. Can they bring in their overseas assets into UK after that 4 year without subject to any tax? Thanks

Hi
Any income / capital gains arising in a tax year that you are not resident in the UK and that income / capital gain does not arise in the UK, will not be taxable in the UK, when transeferred to the UK.

Thanks for your reply. What if I have elected for remittance basis for the 4 years during my tenure at the UK and leave the UK for another 3 years before returning, will those capital gain or income arising during the 4 years subject to tax if I bring them into UK? Thanks

Hi taxnewer,
Yes. If you use the remittance basis, you declare on your tax return, the income/capital gains not being remitted to the UK.
If you bring that income/capital gain, into the UK in a future tax year, then it is taxable in that future tax year.
Thank you.

Thank you for your kind reply. How about I become a non-UK tax resident for the next 3 years and return to the UK afterward? Will I be charged for those income/capital gain during remittance basis if I bring them with me after the 3 years non-UK resident period? Thanks

Thank you for your kind reply. What if I was a UK tax resident (non-domicle) from 2010-2015 using remittance basis and I became a non-UK tax resident from 2016 -2019 and return to the UK in 2020. Will I be charged for those income/capital gain during remittance basis 2010-2015 if I bring them with me in 2020? Thanks
