Self assessment repayment pending

Hello, I truly don’t understand why hmrc do this to us in hard times, while inflation is at an all time high, making people overly stressed and worried about claiming money we have overpaid out of our own pocket, yet they can deduct our tax upfront without a single wait. I have put my claim in for a repayments, it’s gone from payment / credits to payment pending but then I rang hmrc and an advisor said it was due to be issued today; still nothing. I honestly find this unacceptable and how they get away with this is beyond me, they won’t clarify what security checks they have to run (if they need to carry any out) and we have to wait possibly nearly 3-4 months just for our own hard earned money we’ve overpaid them on tax, I really could do with some help.
