I finished work in July 2023 and have not worked since but I fill out a self assessment form because I rent out a property. In May 2024 I recieved back dated pay in settlement for the 2023 pay rise, which I paid tax on through PAYE. How do I enter this on my form for the 2024/2025 tax year?

Hi mdsmith67,
You would declare this as normal.
You will need to provide a letter from your employer to show the breakdown if it is benefiicial to you to have the arrears allocated to the correct years.
If so, we will do the adjustment once the 24/25 return has been submitted.
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. Yes it will be beneficial to me because the income from the property is very small, therefore I should get the tax I paid on the arrears refunded.
