Hello, I invested in a UK company through the EIS scheme in the 19/20 tax year, but I was a non-resident in the UK during that tax year so it was never claimed on any tax return. However, the company has just now gone into administration. My question is am I now able to claim EIS loss relief in my 24/25 tax return, now that I am a resident in the UK and will be doing a UK tax return? Many thanks!

Hi,
You can claim losses in the other assets and gains section of the tax return relating to EIS shares.
Thank you.

Thank you for that. I don't have (nor do I remember receiving) any correspondence from HMRC about this when I made the initial investment. The tax return is asking for an HMRC reference number and an "HMRC office which issued the EIS" - do you know how I would obtain this information now?

Hi MrNeilC, Are you sure you are filling in the right part of the tax return? Share loss relief is not specific to EIS - it is simply that that EIS relief being claimed is the easiest way to confirm the shares qualify. I don't see anything anywhere in the Capital Gains portion of the tax return that asks for what you mention.
