Hi, I moved from Greece to the UK for work permanently. I stopped working in Greece in October 2023 and started working again in the UK in November 2023. In Greece, the tax year period is different compared to the UK. Specifically, Greece's tax year is considered 1st January to 31st December. For tax declaration purposes in Greece, a certificate is needed, which states income, taxes etc, for the period November 2023 to December 2023. From my employer, I have received the P60 documentation, however, this also includes the period from January 2024 to 5th April 2024. How could I obtain a documentation from HMRC which provides info on income only in specific period? Furthermore, should I declare my taxed income from Greece through self assessment tax return that was acquired before I moved to the UK? Thank you!

Hi,

You can apply for a letter of confirmation of residence here:

How to apply for a certificate of residence to claim tax relief abroad

These letters are issued where there is no foreign income, but there is a tax implication. You can submit a request covering from the date you arrived in the UK to the date you submit the request. Do no ask for a date in the future, as HMRC cannot predict what will be the case in the future.

If split year treatment applies, then you do not include your Greek earnings in the tax return, as they are only taxable in Greece.

Thank you.
