Hi Just completed a self assessment for 22-23, to be honest was oblivious to this child benefit tax. Need some clarification on what’s been calculated as owed. My partner receives the £96 monthly for one child. My earnings all included were midway between the max for claiming child benefit. Been informed I owe £650 this tax year, fair enough if that’s about 50% of what was paid in benefit. In the deductions for child benefit it states £2433? For one child for 9 months? I have also got a calculation of £1,200 which states Included in tax code for tax year ending 05 Apr 2025? What is this in reference to? So my tax free allowance of over 12K has reduced to 5K to cover 9x £96 months benefit? We have cancelled now from beginning of January as a result, it seems my net monthly will far exceed a loss now of £96 a month. Very confused !! Thanks
