I have never completed a Self Assessment previously but have recently have registered for Self Assessment as I receive Child Benefit and usually earn over £50k so will need to pay a high income benefit charge. However, in this first year (Apr '23 - Mar '24) my income is below £50k. Do I still need to complete the Self Assessment, or can I just leave it until next year when my income should be over £50k?

Hi,

As your income was under £50k for 23/24 then no return is required.

For 24/25 the threshold increased to £80k before any charge would be due, so no return will be required if still below that new figure.

Thank you.
