Hi, in previous years I've benefitted from Gift Aid payments (normally between £200 - £300) as I've been a higher rate tax payer. This year, my calculation appears to only show a tax cost associated with gift aid (Tax due on Gift Aid payments £334.00 x 20% £66.00). I'd assumed as I'm a higher rate tax payer that they'd be a benefit to making a gift aid payment, but that appears to not be the case. I understand there's a tax cost to gift at at 20%, but normally as a higher rate taxpayer you can reclaim some of this tax, but there appears to be nothing in the calculation that shows this. What might be wrong, or am I wrong? Where would I see this benefit in the calculation?
