Hello, In the tax year of 2022 to 2023 I had a total income of £4808.91 from which £80 was self-employed earnings, £2847.84 I earned as a payee, I got £1730.57 from DWP and £150 from Southwark Council. I repaid £150.70 for the DWP later on. I also, received student finance that year, which is not considered to be taxable income as far as I know. My question is, should had I completed a self-assessment tax return that year? I tried looking everywhere for the answer but I cannot get my head around it, in fact I found an article here on this forum regarding a similar case and the answer was no. Nevertheless, I am still not sure about this and would require your help please. Thank you! Regards, David

Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction! However, my question was regarding to the previous tax year. I do not know whether the rules for taxation has changed since then?

Hi David Varteresz,
Based on the information you have given you would not meet the criteria for Self Assessment.
Thank you.
