Today received 3 letters from HMRC 1 £100 penalty for non-receipt of tax return year ending April 2022 1 £1500 penalty for non-receipt of tax return year ending April 2022 1 £1500 penalty for non-receipt of tax return year ending April 2021 unfortunately didn't realise a tax return was due under CIS which would have resulted in a tax rebate!! Was actually only on CIS for about a year. Before and after was on PAYE. What is odd is have had no communications from HMRC before regarding these fines or requesting tax returns. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you did not receive contact from us to confirm the need to file a return. If your CIS employment began in the 20/21 tax year and finished in 2021 to 2022, you may need to file returns for both years.

To confirm this, and for advice on how to file these returns and claim any rebates due, contact our Self Assessment team by webchat or phone via:

Thank you.
