So self employed until September, then changing job to employed from now on. I have paid half my tax so far (last year and some upfront costs for this year) but do I continue to pay these? Or when I tell hmrc my self employment ends, will they stop my upfront costs? Or do I need to continue to pay and it won’t get updated until April next year? Is there a mid year self assessment I can do to update my tax bill? I don’t want to pay too much, I know I will get a rebate if I do but I would rather not pay tax twice on top of my employed tax

Hi Lauren,
If you have payments on account and your circumstances have changed and the payments on account will now be more than the expected balance due then you can make a request to reduce Understand your Self Assessment tax bill Contents.
Thank you.

Thank you. How do I know how much to reduce payments down to? Self employed income will be 11,000. Also will the fact I will receive 6 months of employed income have an affect?

Hi Lauren,
While we can not advise you on what to reduce your Payments on Account to, your two payments on account should total the amount of tax you expect to owe on your Self employment income.
Thank you.
