I filed my 2022-23 tax return and made a payment for the tax due. When I check my account it shows the payment as overpaid, and the liability for 2022-23 still owing. Why do the two not offset?

Because in the majority of cases tax due for 2022-23 isn't due to be paid until 31 January 2024. If you do nothing the payment will automatically be allocated to the tax due closer to 31 January 2024. Alternatively you can claim a refund of the early payment you have made and will then need to pay it again closer to 31 January 2024. The choice is yours.

Hi
It won't be allocated yet as payments for 22/23 is not due.
