I have not done a self assessment form for many years, and have checked that I am not required to submit one now, according to the HMRC online procedure for checking. But my recent tax calculation letter from HMRC for 2023/24 says I owe tax, and this omits my personal pension contributions. So can I just register and submit a self assessement without being asked to?

You do not need to file a Self Assessment return to claim tax relief on your Personal Pension Payments.
