Switch from self assessment tax return in paper from to online filing

If I order the self assessment tax return in paper form but do not meet the deadline to submit the paper form tax return before 31 Oct, can I switch to online form after order the paper form ? If switch to online filing, do I need to inform HMRC swich to online submission ?
