Hello I am aware that I can claim back car wash expense as self employed but as the car needs a clean at least once every two weeks maybe once a week at times I was wondeing if I could just buy equipment to wash my car such as jet wash, soaps and wax etc and claim that as expense. Thanks.

Hi Ryan Davies,
Business expenses need to be solely for the purpose of your business so washing your car doesn,t fall into this.
No  tax relief is due whether you use a garage one or buy your own equipment.
Please see:
Expenses if you're self-employed
Thank you.

Hello Thanks for the reply. It would be for business use as I use my car for myself employed job as a courier. I thought under actual expenses i could claim back money spent on a car wash which is why i thought could i claim for car cleaning products instead. Thanks.

Hi,

Expenses need to be wholly, necessarily and exclusively related to the performance of your duties. Car wash costs do not meet this criteria as they are not wholly necessary and as such no relief is due.

Thank you.
