Hello, I'm self employed as a foster carer and do my tax return each year, I'm also employed full time. Is there a way I can use the left over tax allowance (as I don't earn enough through fostering) to pay less tax in my employment? Or would I have to go self employed at the company I currently work for? Thanks

Hi,
Yes, you can be employed as a Pay As You Earn employee while you are Self Employed. You may wish to mention this to your new employer when you begin working for them, to ensure they register you for the correct tax code. Please also ensure that you declare both your PAYE and Self Employment earnings on your tax return when the current tax year ends.
Thank you.

Hi ITSJEEVES,
When you complete your Self Assessment tax return on the calculation the personal allowance is set against your taxable income both employed and self employed so you will receive the full benefit.
Thank you.

Hi, My main job is an NHS job which I have already paid the correct tax for the last financial year. I have become self-employed in that time and made an extra £46 only as the business are not apart of PAYE. I have declared to HMRC that I'm self employed and have sent them the details of this Self employed job. Have I made a mistake in this as it is not over £1000? I have started a self-employment form but do I need to do this? Can I amend this any way if I have done this incorrectly? Many thanks
