I registered for self assessment a few years ago and have been submitting tax returns since then. I have found out that I am non resident for the tax year ended 5th April 2023. Do I still need to complete a self assessment? If not, how do I notify HMRC? Note I do not have UK property income, only self employment income. Also, to complicate matters I will be tax resident for the year ended 5th April 2024. If i de-register for self assessment for the tax year ended 5th April 2023 will I then need to re-register for the tax year ended 5th April 2024.

Hi,

You will not de-register as you will still need the return for 2023/24. You can contact us to ask us to withdraw the 2022/23 return.
