I worked in Australia at the beginning of this year as a self employed professional. I was paid a settlement at the end of my contract and I had to apply for an ABN (Australian Business Number) and a TFN (Tax File Number) in order to be paid. I have received the payment but no tax was paid on this settlement. Do i need to file a tax return in Australia for this payment? (I do not have any of the details they require to register such as AU address, Au account, etc) I am a permanent resident of the UK, but I will be returning to Australia in the future for similar contracts. please advise

Hi Dizy,
You would need to contact the Australian tax authorities to see if a return is required there. As a UK resident though, you do need to include the income on your UK tax return.
Thank you.
