Hello, Need a quick bit of help. Filling out my self assessment and the tax calculation is a lot higher than last years. Do I need to deduct the payments I made January and July of this year? If so, where do I do this? I think my accountant did it last year but I cannot seem to find where on the form accounts for the prepayments. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

No, the calculation only includes tax deducted at source. Your balancing payment will update on your statement to take into account the payments already made once you submit the return.

Thank you.

Hello, I submitted my return back in October, expecting for the calculation to reduce to take into account previous balancing payments but it hasn't reduced. It should have recalculated by now?

Hi Patrick Bryan,
Once your Self Assessment is processed if you have made payments on account these will be deducted from the balance calculated.
You can check your online account to make sure this has been done.
If you need further assistance you will need to contact HMRC to review this:

Thank you.
