Hi, I have been UK on May 2023. I tried to get my UTR number by registering the self assessment online. I am still looking for a job. My income is only from the interest of saving. I completed the self assessment form online on 30 April 2024. However, I still not receive any letter regarding my UTR number. I have checked the system online and the reply should be received on 4 July 2024. Grateful if you can advise me what to do next. Thank you.

Hi patrickypc,
If your only income is from savings then unless the untaxed interest is greater than £10,000 you would not need to register for Self Assessment:
Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return.
If you do need to register and still not received your UTR then you will need to contact HMRC to review:
Self Assessment: general enquiries.
Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. If the untaxed interest is from Hong Kong and from UK but the total amount is less than £10,000, would I need to register for self assessment? Thank you.

Hi patrickypc,
If you have taxable foreign income then you will need to register for Self Assessment.
You can check if you need to register here:

Thank you.
