First time Self-employed, no idea where to begin.

Hi, I’d like some advice please? My current employer wants me to go self employed, as she doesn’t want to employ me anymore and I have no idea what to do when it comes to being self-employed. Do I just fill out the self assessment? How does the tax work? Do I fill out a tax return each year? And seeing as I’m working at someone else’s business who supplies everything, do I just keep a record of my income? Thank you
