I'm a volunteer who has just taken over record-keeping for Gift Aid for a local charity. In going through the past records, I've discovered one mistake. The Gift Aid claim for 2022-23 submitted to Charities Online by uploading HMRC 's spreadsheet schedule included donations that were not covered by a current gift aid declaration. As a result about 20 donations from "John Smith" totalling £480 were incorrectly included. I understand that I should put the over-claimed tax (£120) in "Box 2 Previously Overclaimed Amount" of the next claim. What I don't understand is how I link this correction to John Smith's donations. The mistake was ours, the letter cancelling his declaration was misfiled, so I want to make sure that this elderly person is not chased by HMRC for the tax to cover our mistaken claim. Many thanks in advance for your help
