I am a South African, now in my 4th year of a 5-year route to British citizenship. My wife is a British citizen with dual South African citizenship. I have leave to enter and am in possession of a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). We have declared to the South African Tax Authority that we are no longer tax-resident in South Africa. SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICE have requested "A certificate of tax residence from the foreign revenue authority (in this case - HMRC) OR a letter from the authority (HMRC), that indicates that you are regarded as a tax resident in that country (UK)." The deadline for submission is shown as 25/02/2025. We both submitted all required details to HMRC on the Form at "www.tax.service.gov.uk/shortforms/form/PT_CertOfRes?dept" (HMRC: Structured Email tax.service.gov.uk), on 28th January 2025. THIS IS HMRC ACKNOWLEDGEMENT "Thank you for your application for a certificate of residence. This message is confirmation that HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has received your request. HMRC will usually respond within 25 working days." We are now late with our South African compliance to change Tax Residency and will have to re-start the process. It will help enormously to know when we may receive the letter from HMRC advising that we are tax residents of the UK. Thank you in anticipation of some assistance.
